Our company has been producing high-quality manicure, pedicure, and nail care instruments since 1896 – and everything is obviously “Made in Solingen“!
Handmade in Solingen, the city of blades – our company is located in Solingen city centre and has the product development, an extensive warehouse, and logistical facilities under its roof, not forgetting the production of nail scissors, tweezers and nail clippers for manicures and pedicures.
The traditional production site impressively shows how classical trades and modern technology are able to effectively interlock. A robot system and our committed employees are responsible for producing high-quality Pfeilringwerk Produktions GmbH instrument products for daily use. The portfolio is rounded off by the intensive cooperation with leading dermatologists that warrants the consistently high quality of the manufactured instruments and products.
This all goes back to the year 1896. The producer Carl Müller who came from the Bergisch Land region in Germany noticed that the inhabitants were showing a lively interest in quality products and accessories made of metal. This resulted in Müller launching his first product onto the market: a cigar cutter, a strong cutter that turned into the status symbol of the dandies back then in no time at all.
Carl Müller was able to expand his factory in Solingen in no time at all and while other companies relied on external wage workers, Müller focussed on the manual skills of his own employees. The entire product range that included everything from cigar cutters to manicure items and the classic pocketknives from Solingen were manufactured in his own workshop.
In the years that followed, Müller and the financial backer Paul Adolph Schmidt, who had gained experience abroad, founded the company "Müller & Schmidt Pfeilringwerk" with the ambition of them being able to offer their quality products from Solingen to customers around the world. In August 1900, work started on the construction of a large factory in the Charlottenstraße in Solingen.
The company quickly released itself from the supplier chain at the beginning of the 20th century and the reputation of Pfeilringwerk in Solingen turned into a brand. A drop forge was constructed in 1910, resulting in it being possible to meaningfully increase the effectiveness of the production. A wide range of high-quality metal items were responsible for considerable growth until 1922. Bench tools, scissors and nail files were an integral part of the product range as from then.
The upwards trend was brought to a halt between 1932 and 1945 as a result of the economic crises that occurred after the war. The company founder Müller also died in 1932 so that Schmidt assumed responsibility for the management in the years that followed.
The reconstruction started directly after the Second World War with the damaged factory being rebuilt. In 1956, Wolfgang Schmidt, the son of the brand initiator took over the management as did Dr. Eberhard Wendel, Carl Müller´s grandson in 1960. The steel items were sold to the entire world from Solingen during the economic boom years.
As from the 1970s, the production and the number of employees were continually expanded and in the 1990s, items made by Pfeilringwerk were looked upon as being global market leading products.
Our site in the Sudetenstraße in Solingen city centre is still impressively showing how close classical trades, modern production variants and an extremely committed and qualified team can contribute to the production of Quality Made in Germany for the global market. Customised high-tech procedures go hand in hand with manual production processes. Nowadays, you can encounter our products in more than 60 countries.
